What Is Labor Day All About? 
Labor Day is more than just the unofficial end of summer. It was established in the late 1800s to recognize the contributions of American workers — the engine behind our economy, infrastructure, and day-to-day lives. 

The first U.S. Labor Day was celebrated in New York City in 1882, and by 1894, it became a national holiday observed every first Monday in September. 

Fun Facts You Might Not Know

• Labor Day was born out of protest. The idea for the holiday came after years of union efforts demanding better working conditions. 
• It’s the third most popular grilling day of the year. Only the 4th of July and Memorial Day beat it.
